This booklet is a structured numeracy resource designed specifically for neurodiverse learners who are developing early number recognition and counting skills. The booklet focuses on helping children learn the numbers 0 to 10 through clear, repetitive and visual activities.

Each number is introduced step by step. Learners practise recognising the number, counting objects, tracing the number, identifying the correct quantity and writing the number name. This structured approach helps reinforce early mathematical understanding in a simple and supportive way.

Sections / Themes included in the booklet:

The booklet focuses on numbers from 0 to 10, with each number introduced through similar activities to build confidence and familiarity.

1. Introduction to numbers

Each section introduces a number and its number name, for example:

• 0 – zero
• 1 – one
• 2 – two
• 3 – three
• 4 – four
• 5 – five
• 6 – six
• 7 – seven
• 8 – eight
• 9 – nine
• 10 – ten.

2. Colour and count

Children colour the large number on each page while counting aloud using their fingers or objects. This helps learners connect the number symbol with the quantity.

3. Ten frame counting

Learners use small objects such as counters, raisins or clay balls to fill ten frames with the correct quantity. This helps develop early number sense and counting skills.

4. Tracing numbers

Children practise tracing the number multiple times to develop:

• number recognition
• pencil control
• handwriting skills.

5. Writing numbers and number names

Learners practise writing:

• the number symbol
• the number word on writing lines.

For example:
5 – five.

6. Counting pictures

Children count pictures and identify the correct number by circling the correct answer. Examples include counting animals, objects and everyday items.

7. Dot counting activities

Learners colour or mark the correct number of dots to match the number on the page. They may also place small objects on each dot to represent the quantity.
