This is how I do it – Alphabet Sentences

This booklet contains 26 pages in black and white.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Curamus School for Autism for their support and invaluable assistance with the design of these booklets.

This booklet is a learning resource designed specifically for neurodiverse learners who are developing early reading, sentence building and alphabet recognition skills. The aim of the booklet is to help children practise letter recognition, word order and simple sentence construction in a structured and visual way.

Each page focuses on one letter of the alphabet. Learners trace the letter, read a simple sentence, and then cut out the words and rebuild the sentence in the correct order. After completing the sentence, they colour the matching picture.

This structured process helps children connect letters, words, sentences and meaning while strengthening reading confidence.

Sections / Themes included in the booklet:

The booklet follows the alphabet from A to Z, with each page focusing on one letter and one simple sentence.

1. Alphabet letter tracing

Each page begins with letter tracing practice.

Children trace both the uppercase and lowercase letters, helping them practice correct letter formation.

Examples include:

  • A a
  • B b
  • C c
  • D d
  • E e

This supports early handwriting development.

2. Build a sentence activities

Learners rebuild a simple sentence by placing the words in the correct order.

Examples include:

  • I see an apple.
  • I see a ball.
  • I see a cat.
  • I see a dog.
  • I see an egg.

Children cut out the words and paste them into the correct sentence order.

3. Alphabet vocabulary

Each letter introduces a word that begins with that letter, helping learners connect letters with beginning sounds.

Examples include:

  • F – fish
  • G – goat
  • H – house
  • I – ink
  • J – jacket
  • K – kite

 

4. Continued alphabet sentences

The booklet continues with the full alphabet sequence.

Examples include:

  • L – I see a lion.
  • M – I see a mouse.
  • N – I see a net.
  • O – I see an ox.
  • P – I see a pie.
  • Q – I see a queen.

5. Completing the alphabet

The final pages continue with:

  • R – rat
  • S – snake
  • T – tent
  • U – umbrella
  • V – vase
  • W – worm
  • X – x-ray
  • Y – yo-yo
  • Z – zebra

Each page follows the same predictable structure, helping learners feel confident while practicing reading.
